Czech Republic: Miner gets clearance in power plant transfer

While details are scarce, a spokesperson for the Czech Republic’s antitrust regulator UOHS told reporters that the regulator has approved for power utility CEZ to sell its coal-fired power plant to miner LUAS. LUAS will acquire the plant, known as Chvaletice, to operate it long-term. LUAS currently controls about 10-15 percent of the nation’s brown coal market. Without the acquisition, CEZ reportedly planned to cease operations of the plant in 2015.
