South Korea’s Fair Trade Commission is considering probing allegations of whiskey price-fixing among large discount chains or distributors. A report by a civic group found that prices of whiskey between three chains were similar.
Moreover, the FTC found that prices of European whiskey have increased: consumers pay 5.1 times as much as the import price of whiskey. The prices are 36 percent higher than those of overseas markets: Glenfiddich is 44,667 won in Korea, compared to 28,172 won in Japan.
