Wiz CEO Assaf Rappaport announced the development during a Wall Street Journal event on Tuesday, calling the DOJ’s clearance “an important milestone.” He added that the company is still navigating the process between the deal’s signing and closing stages. The transaction, once finalized, will embed Wiz’s cybersecurity tools into Google Cloud’s suite of products, bolstering defenses for enterprises facing increasingly sophisticated digital threats.

According to Reuters, a Google spokesperson said the company is continuing to work through regulatory reviews in other jurisdictions and expects the acquisition to close in 2026, pending standard conditions. The deal was first revealed in March 2025, signaling Google’s most significant push yet into cybersecurity.

The DOJ had launched an antitrust review earlier this year to determine whether the purchase could harm competition in the cybersecurity and cloud services sectors, Bloomberg previously reported. Its decision to conclude the investigation without objection provides Alphabet some regulatory relief amid a broader wave of scrutiny facing major tech firms. Per Reuters, Google continues to confront multiple legal battles in the U.S. and Europe over its dominance in search and advertising markets.

The $32 billion price tag surpasses any of Google’s past acquisitions, including its $12.5 billion purchase of Motorola Mobility in 2012 and the $5.4 billion acquisition of cybersecurity firm Mandiant in 2022. Industry analysts view the Wiz deal as a cornerstone of Google Cloud’s long-term strategy to narrow the gap with Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services.

The DOJ’s decision comes as Google awaits a separate federal court ruling that could force it to divest parts of its advertising business. Against this backdrop of heightened regulatory pressure, the DOJ’s clearance of the Wiz acquisition stands as a rare positive development for the tech giant.
