Berenbroick emphasized his motivation for joining the group, noting the growing importance of Congress in addressing corporate power. “I’m thrilled to bring my experience on Capitol Hill to an organization that’s anchoring the modern anti-monopoly movement,” he said. He also pointed to what he described as an increase in corporate pardons for white-collar crimes, stressing that lawmakers must act to protect Americans’ economic freedoms.

Per a statement from Economic Liberties, Berenbroick’s background includes serving as Policy Director at Public Knowledge, where he focused on broadband competition, affordability, and privacy before Congress and federal agencies. He has also worked as a telecommunications attorney in private practice and as a legislative aide in the Virginia House of Delegates.

Nidhi Hegde, Executive Director of the American Economic Liberties Project, highlighted Berenbroick’s role in several major congressional efforts. “From helping lead the House Antitrust Subcommittee’s landmark investigation into Big Tech in 2020 to advancing Senator Klobuchar’s efforts to modernize federal antitrust laws, Phil has played a central role in shaping Congress’s most significant anti-monopoly work in recent years,” she said in a statement.

According to the announcement, Berenbroick’s experience will help strengthen the organization’s advocacy efforts at a time when policymakers are under increasing pressure to rein in concentrated corporate power.
