EU: Airline alliance offers concessions to EC

 |  October 21, 2014

Members of the Skyteam alliance have reportedly offered concessions to the European Commission to appease competition concerns over the partnership.

According to reports, Air France, Delta Air Lines and Alitalia have offered to divest airport slots at three locations, amid other concessions. The alliance was greeted with antitrust concerns in January 2012 after the Commission found that the joint venture could increase prices on certain routes.

The alliance allows its 20 members to share codes to increase the number of flights to certain destinations, say reports.

In a statement given Tuesday, the Commission said the alliance offered to divest slots at airports in New York, Rome and Amsterdam. The regulator said the airlines have also agreed to let rivals sell tickets on Skyteam flights.
