A press conference with Commissioner Joaquin Almunia was released on Wednesday concerning the Commission’s decision to block a merger between TNT Express and UPS. In his reasoning, Almunia noted that there are only four leaders that provide services of express deliveries across Europe, which include UPS, TNT, DHL and FedEx. In his statement, Almunia announced that the merger between TNT and UPS “would have significantly changed the competitive situation in the market.” Continuing on, the Commissioner follows the authority’s thought process in its decision to block the deal.
