EU: Commission seeks opinions on TenneT’s case

The European Commission has invited stakeholders to comment on grid operator TenneT’s proposed commitments to increase cross-border electricity capacity between Germany and Denmark, the Commission said on Tuesday, March 26.

The Commission recently opened an antitrust investigation to assess whether TenneT had restricted border transmission capacity beyond what was necessary on the 3.7 GW interconnector between western Denmark and Germany. It stated it had received complaints from Danish producers who want to supply power to Germany but cannot get access and that it suspected access was deliberately decreased when too much power is produced.

Under TenneT’s proposal, it would offer a minimum guaranteed hourly capacity of 1.3 GW on the interconnector to market participants.

The Commission said on Tuesday it had invited submission of comments within four weeks of publication of the commitments.
