EU: Commission seeks to protect technology competition through patent regulation changes

The European Commission has announced its invite for public comment concerning a new proposal of rules for technology transfer agreements in its quest to strengthen the current model and promote research and innovation. Technology transfer agreements allow for companies to license a patent from another party; the issue is currently debated among antitrust experts as licensors can discriminate to which companies a patent is licensed, among other issues. According to the Commission, changes must be made to the current regime so as to not harm competition.
