EU: Commission sets deadline to rule on Publicis, Omnicom deal

The proposed merger between US-based Omnicom Group and France-based Publicis Groupe, a deal that would create the globe’s top advertising agency, will be ruled upon by the European Commission on January 9, the regulator said Tuesday.

    The merger between the ad firms was first announced last summer for $35.1 billion. Since, the companies have had to push back their expected date of completion pending approval from various competition agencies around the globe, though remain confident in merger clearance.

    The US, South Korea, Canada, India, Turkey, and South Africa are among the nations to have already approved the deal.
