EU: Decision deadline set for GE takeover deal

European Union antitrust regulators set a deadline of February 23 for its decision on whether to clear General Electric’s (GE) planned acquisition of French company Alstom’s power equipment business. France already approved the deal in June 2014, whereby gaining a 20 percent stake in Alstom.

    The companies requested EU approval on January 19 and the regulators have the options of requiring concessions if it finds that the takeover could lead to higher prices, or giving unconditional approval if it finds the measures France required to be sufficient. For its approval, France required GE create jobs and form an energy joint venture with Alstom.
