According to reports, Nadia Maria Calviño Santamaria was appointed as the new DG for budget at the Commission. She will follow Hervé Jouanjean, who is set to retire later this year.

Calviño became the youngest-ever deputy director-general when she joined the regulator to head the competition department in 2006. She was 38.

In addition to Calviño’s new appointment, the Commission has additionally appointed a new deputy director-general for mergers in the competition department.

Olivier Guersent is set to take over for Bernd Langeheine following his retirement this June as the new DG for mergers, reports say. Guersent has been at the commission since 1992.
