EU: Lafarge, Holcim discussing fast-tracked merger review

Unnamed sources say cement giants Lafarge and Holcim are in discussions with the European Commission to secure a rapid review of their plans to merge and create the world’s largest cement maker.

According to reports, the companies are planning to offer concessions that would alleviate competition concerns before filing for approval for the deal; the move would jumpstart the approval process.

The move also offers a chance for the companies to avoid an in-depth probe of the deal, the sources said.
