EU: Lafarge/Holcim to earn Commission clearance

 |  December 3, 2014

The proposed merger between cement conglomerates Lafarge and Holcim will earn clearance from the European Commission, say reports.

Unnamed sources told reporters Wednesday that France-based Lafarge and Switzerland-based Holcim will be allowed to proceed with plans to merge into the world’s largest cement producer, though the Commission will likely demand more divestitures from the companies than they have already planned.

So far eight authorities across the globe have signed off on the deal, including Russia and Turkey. Lafarge and Holcim have already lined up assets to sell, most of which are located in Europe, according to reports.
