EU: Major telecoms want revised reforms from Commission

Heads of the largest telecommunications operators in Europe have sent a letter to the European Commission requesting the regulator to rethink and revise its planned reforms for the industry. According to reports, the CEOs of operators Deutsche Telecom, France Telecom-Orange, Telecom Italia and others are calling for changes to the proposals concerning mergers and pricing. Specifically, reports say the companies are asking for more lax merger regulations and the removal of wholesale pricing policies for the sale of fixed broadband service. The companies argue that the regulations harm innovation and ability to invest in 4G and fiber services.
