EU: Praxair confirms $13bn merger talks with Germany’s Linde

Praxair, one of Danbury’s largest employers, is in talks to merge with Germany’s Linde AG, according to several published reports, and would create the world’s largest industrial gas supplier.

The company on Tuesday morning confirmed the report, but added in a release: “These discussions are ongoing and there can be no assurance that they will result in a transaction, or on what terms any transaction may occur.”

Praxiar said it would not comment further at this time.

Each company is valued at approximately $30 billion. Details of the potential merger were not clear and officials from the company declined comment or could not be reached. Bloomberg reports that it would be an all-stock transaction.

The Wall Street Journal reported Monday that talks could still fall apart. It would also be subjected to antitrust regulators. The reported talks come on the heels of the merger of France’s Air Liquide SA and Airgas, a $13 billion deal.
