EU/Russia: Gazprom, EU meet amid Ukraine tensions

Reports say Gazprom has met with EU officials to discuss the European Commission’s current competition probe into the gas giant, a case that has been placed in limbo as tensions mount over Russia’s takeover of the Ukrainian region of Crimea.

According to reports, Gazprom Chief Executive Alexei Miller met with EU energy regulators, the Commission said.

While the nature of the meeting was not disclosed, the Commission is currently investigating Gazprom over allegations of abuse of dominance in its oil supplies to EU member states.

EU energy head Günther Oettinger told reporters that the purpose of the meeting “was to discuss current issues related to energy and security of supply,” but did not elaborate.
