European Commission Extends Decision Deadline for Ita-Lufthansa Merger

 |  May 7, 2024
The European Commission has opted to prolong its deliberation on the potential merger between Ita and Lufthansa, citing the need for thorough consideration of remedy proposals put forth by the two companies.

According to statements from the EU executive, the extension is a result of the remedy proposals submitted by Ita and Lufthansa in an attempt to assuage the apprehensions of the EU Antitrust authority. These proposals are crucial in addressing potential competition issues that may arise from the merger, ensuring that the consolidation does not lead to anti-competitive practices detrimental to consumers or other market participants.
