Per the announcement, Musser brings experience from her time at the FTC, where she managed the Bureau of Competition’s litigation portfolio and led several cases in both federal courts and the agency’s administrative tribunal. Her tenure at the FTC, which spanned from April 2020 to October 2025, included multiple leadership positions, culminating in her appointment earlier this year as Acting Director by FTC Chair Andrew Ferguson.

According to a statement, Musser’s career also includes experience at the U.S. Department of Justice, where she worked as a trial attorney from 2011 to 2017. There, she prosecuted domestic and international antitrust cartels, participated in trial teams, and argued motions in courts across the country. Between her government roles, she was in private practice defending clients in antitrust and white-collar matters.

“We are excited to welcome Susan to WilmerHale,” said Anjan Sahni, the firm’s Managing Partner. “Her record as a first-chair trial lawyer and her deep experience at both the FTC and DOJ make her an invaluable resource to our clients and firm.”

Musser commented that she looks forward to collaborating with her new colleagues to help clients navigate today’s increasingly complex enforcement environment.

A graduate of St. Louis University, where she earned both her BS and JD with honors, Musser also clerked for Judge Michael Wolff of the Missouri Supreme Court.
