France: $1.26M fine for construction bid-riggers

After finding two of the nation’s construction conglomerates had conspired to rig bids of contracts, France’s antitrust authority has issued a $1.26 million fine to one of those conspirators. Eiffage has been served the fine for bid-rigging concerning contracts to build observation towers at a prison in southern France. The contracts were issued in 2008. The other conspirator, Vilmor Construction, will only be fined about $6,500 due to its current restructuring process federal protected because of financial difficulties at the firm. In an official statement, the antitrust authority said it found “serious and matching signs” that the companies had colluded in the bidding process.
