French competition regulators announced their approval of the proposed acquisition of cable operator Numericable, say reports, just days after rumors sparked that Numericable plans to acquire Vivendi assets.
The cable company will be acquired by Invefore Patrick Drahi through his vehicle Altice, which already owns a 40 percent stake in the company. The buyout follows Altice’s announcement made earlier this month to list itself on the NYSE Euronext stock exchange.
The buyout also follows reports that French telco giant Vivendi plans to sell its SFR subsidiary to Numericable. Reports are unclear, however, whether the plans remain after the Numericable acquisition announcement.
