France: Commission closes probe into water firms after a year

A yearlong probe into two French water and waste companies has closed after the European Commission announced it did not find sufficient evidence to initiate sanctions against the firms. The Commission launched a formal investigation into Veolia Environment and Suez Environment in January of 2012 after raiding several offices of the sector in 2010. The companies were suspected of fixing prices with a rival and a trade body. Despite the lack of sanctions, the Commission assured that it would continue to keep an eye on the market.
