A spokesperson for rail transport company Eurotunnel has announced the company’s parent company, Groupe Eurotunnel, has entered the bidding to run the French ports of Calais and Boulogne for 50 years. The potential deal has not settled well with competitor P&O Ferries, whose spokesperson says that Eurotunnel has “more front than Dolly Parton” and argues that if Eurotunnel were to win the bid for the French ports competition would be significantly hampered. The P&O spokesperson also noted that Eurotunnel’s recent offer to buy SeaFrance ships has been referred to the Competition Commission by the Office of Fair Trading. Dover and Deal Charlie Elphicke voiced similar concerns.
