France: Mobile network sharing allowed, but carriers still under scrutiny

Just days after the French competition authority has announced its approval to allow network sharing for its wireless carriers, new reports say that the authority is now voicing its opposition against carrier Iliad SA from extending its roaming agreement as it rents network capacity from carrier France Telecom SA. The antitrust authority’s president Bruno Lasserre has stated that France Telecom should end its contract with Iliad before its 2018 expiration. According to reports, the deal has allowed Iliad to sell at low prices as it continues to build its own infrastructure. That, however, has forced competitors to lower prices and has ultimately lead to job cuts. According to Lasserre, the situation gives Iliad, who runs Free Mobile, to have a significant advantage above competitors.
