France/Switzerland: Mega cement merger could top $50B

The two largest cement makers on the planet are reportedly in talks to merge, potentially striking a deal that could top $50 billion or even more.

    Reports say Switzerland-based Holcim and France-based Lafarge have entered merger talks. If successful, the transaction would be the largest-ever deal for the industry.

    But, reports say, competition authorities are likely to closely scrutinize the deal. While the companies have not yet reached any formal agreement, the two touted the plan as a “merger of equals.”

    According to reports, the merger would also be the largest in Europe so far this year.
