The takeover is part of the company’s five-year plan to expand its digital operations; Accor said it plans to spend more than $280 million on the project to boost its position against top rivals like Expedia and Booking.com.

According to reports, Accor faces competition on two fronts: one, from major hotel groups like Marriott and InterContinental, and the other, from online booking sites and digital travel agents.

Wipolo is a start-up business offering digital itinerary management. Accor did not reveal how much it will pay to purchase the company.
