Germany: Amazon safe from cartel office – for now

 |  November 26, 2013

Germany’s Federal Cartel Office has reportedly shelved its investigation into US online retail conglomerate Amazon.com Inc. following an agreement reached with the company.

Regulators first launched an investigation against the firm last February over its Marketplace contractual conditions it places on third-party sellers. Amazon has reportedly agreed to lift its previous ban on third-party sellers listing products for cheaper prices on venues other than Amazon, however.

The probe into Amazon coincided with similar inquiries by the UK’s Office of Fair Trading and the European Commission. The case in Germany is now shelved following interviews with Amazon employees confirming that the Marketplace rules in question were now lifted.
