Germany: ISP wants cheaper access to network with Telefonica buyout

Internet service provider United Internet said Thursday that if Telefonica is going to acquire KPN’s E-Plus, rival wireless companies should be granted cheaper access to Telefonica’s network.

    Reports say United Internet sounded off on the $11.9 billion merger that would combine Germany’s third- and fourth-place wireless operators. The European Commission is currently reviewing the deal.

    But as the merger review continues, United Internet is calling upon the regulator to force Telefonica Deutschland parent company Telefonica, based in Spain, to offer mobile virtual network operators cheaper access to its network as a condition of the deal.
