Germany: Price-fixing scandal brewing in the beer market

The Federal Cartel Office has announced an official investigation of “several” of the nation’s breweries after the watchdog has been eying about a dozen of them suspected of fixing beer prices. The companies control more than 50 percent of the market and have reportedly been under the Office’s radar since 2012. AB-InBev is reportedly among those being investigated; the company is currently in a longstanding battle in the US to buy the Modelo brand, and has not confirmed that it is part of the Office’s probe. The authority did not offer any more details.
