Global: Telecoms could see 7-year M&A high

Reports say the telecommunications industry could see its highest levels of mergers and acquisitions since 2006. According to data analysis performed by Bloomberg, the year has already experienced more than $80 billion in announced transactions, a number that could more than double if Verizon Communications Inc. continues with its proposed buyout of Vodafone’s stake in Verizon Wireless. Thus far, some of the year’s largest deals have been announced by Dish Network, SoftBank and Vodafone. It’s a trend, according to reports, that reflects the industry’s quest for revenue growth as demand declines for Internet and wireless services.
