As Hong Kong’s aviation industry bickers about how many players the market needs, start-up budget airliner Jetstar Hong Kong has jointed the debate, firing back at opponents to new entrants.
Chairman Pansy Ho Chiu-king said Hong Kong has room for such low-cost airlines, the first time the executive made a public statement since taking the position last month.
Some airlines and experts say new entrants would boost competition, while others warn that indiscriminate licensing would have major impacts in the market and its relationship with overseas airlines.
But according to Ho, while fewer competitors means facilitated operations for the airlines, “Hong Kong needs more players to balance the market, and we know how to manage capacity and efficiency.”
