Howard Shelanski to be new Director of FTC’s Bureau of Economics

Howard Shelanski has been named the new Director of the FTC’s Bureau of Economics. The Director “provides economic analysis and support to antitrust and consumer protection investigations and rulemakings.” Shelanski had served as the FTC’s Deputy Director for Antitrust from 2009 to 2011, after which he became a professor at Georgetown University Law Center. Shelanski will be replacing Joseph Farrell, who is returning to teach at the end of the month. Deputy Director Pauline Ippolito will serve as Acting Director until July 1, the start date of Shelanski’s term.
