Hungary: EU launches infringement procedures on Hungary competition rule changes

The European Commission has reportedly launched infringement procedures against Hungary concerning the nation’s changes to the Economic Competition Office and certain competition rules, say reports.

    Unnamed sources are reporting that the Commission is calling into question Hungary’s amendment that says competition regulators can only fine companies found to have participated in a cartel if their illegal activities are continued beyond a certain deadline; the amendment changes the previous rule that cartels were to be fined per se.

    According to the Commission, Hungary now has two months to respond to EU authorities.
