India: CCI takes action in film industry

The Competition Commission of India has reportedly ordered a cease and desist action against the Northern India Motion Pictures Association for alleged anticompetitive conduct. According to reports, the order was issued against the NIMPA, as well as other film associations, after the CCI found that their practice of pressuring film distributors to settle financial disputes with its members was in violation of the Competition Act. This isn’t the first time the NIMPA has been in trouble with the CCI – the authority also apparently asked the Association to modify its rules and regulations that were found to be anticompetitive.
