India: High Court delays auto parts antitrust fine

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) was hit by an extended stay from the High Court concerning a fine the CCI gave Maruti Suzuki India. The CCI issued the levy, totaling $76 million, after concluding an investigation into thirteen automotive manufacturers concerning the sale of spare parts at higher prices.

    The investigation was originally launched towards Honda, Volkswagen and Fiat, but during the probe the CCI found that other companies were conducting similar practices and expanded the case to include them as well. The High Court placed a stay on the levy as well as restrain the CCI from taking and “coercive measures” against Suzuki until similar pleas from Hyundai and Nissan are dismissed.
