Ireland/UAE: Etihad targets more Aer Lingus shares for second time in weeks

 |  March 20, 2014

For the second time in two weeks, United Arab Emirates-based airline Etihad is reportedly looking to up its stake in Irish airline Aer Lingus.

Etihad inked a more-than $14 million deal to acquire stake in the Irish carrier last week; its stake now stands at 4.11 percent in the company.

Etihad could now be looking to increase those shares yet again just days after Ryanair lost its appeal with the UK’s Competition Commission, which ordered Ryanair to divest nearly all of its assets in Aer Lingus. Ryanair holds nearly 30 percent in the company, but the Commission required the firm to reduce that holding to no more than 5 percent.
