Israel: Bookstore chain, CEO indited on trade restraint charges from two cases

Israel’s Antitrust Authority will reportedly indict bookstore chain Steimatzky Ltz as well as its CEO on charges of restraint of trade. The charges stem from two different cases, the first between November 2010 and June 11 when the chain allegedly forced exclusivity deals for its sales compaigns, preventing competitors from offering discounts on certain books. The second occured in July 2011 when, according to the charges, the chain again demanded exclusivity deals from pulishers in July sales so competitors could not offer their own discouns. The Antiturst Authority has officially opened an investigation into the matters.
