Israel’s Antitrust Authority announced Sunday that it is looking to ban the practice of companies announcing price changes in advance in efforts to prevent price coordination, say reports.
Regulators say such pricing announcements could have effects on the market that are just as negative as secret negotiations. Now, the Authority has released a draft policy outlining proposed rules that would ban the practice.
According to reports, the rule changes are in line with the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
”Information passed along in public statements could be used to preserve or coordinate cartel efforts, be they secret or in the open,” the watchdog said.
The rules would apply to every industry and be particularly impactful on the dairy, food, banking, telco and insurance markets.
The rules will be the subject of public comment until next month, say reports.
