Israel: Leading supermarkets face dawn raids

Israel’s two leading supermarket chains were faced with dawn raids Wednesday with the nation’s Antitrust Authority searched their main offices, reports say.

    Regulators collected documents from Super-Sol and Mega Blue Square to aid the authority’s investigation into the partnerships between supermarkets and their suppliers. According to unnamed sources, executives were not detained and the documents collected involved happenings from 2009 and 2010.

    That information was not confirmed or denied by regulators. But some experts, reports say, said the raids likely signal that regulators found evidence of cartel behavior, or that the chains had previously withheld documents from regulators.
