Italy: Antitrust regulators want action on conflict of interest politicians

Italy’s antirust authority is pushing parliament to consider legislation concerning conflicts of interest all in the name to improve the country’s image. A report said that parliament was asked to revisit current protocol regarding the matter; discussion on the topic has grown, especially since former premier Silvio Berlusconi – the owner of three of the largest commercial television channels as well as Italy’s largest publishing group – entered the political scene in 1994. While there is a clause in voting legislation that bars anyone form running with a State concession, sanctions have to yet been applied to Berlusconi.
