Italy Earmarks €30M To Protect Workers From AI Replacements

The Italian government has allocated 30 million euros ($33 million) to enhance the skills of unemployed individuals and workers who may face job insecurity due to automation and artificial intelligence.

    The Fondo per la Repubblica Digitale (FRD), established by the Rome government in 2021 to enhance the digital abilities of Italians, reports that 54% of individuals aged 16-74 lack fundamental digital skills, while the European Union average is 46%.

    FRD stated that the funding for training improvement will be allocated in two manners.

    Of the total, 10 million euros will go towards boosting the skills of those whose jobs are at high risk of being replaced due to automation and technological innovation.

    The remaining 20 million euros will be allocated to help unemployed and economically inactive people develop digital skills that would improve their chances of entering the job market, FRD said.
