Italy: EU court deals blow to case of quarreling telco firms

The EU General Court rejected an appeal filed by Italian telco operator Vivendi against a 2010 European Commission decision to clear a complaint in which Vivendi accused Orange of abusing its dominant position in the market.

    Vivendi told the EU court earlier this year that the European Commission’s ruling did not adequately address Vivendi’s complaint against Orange, then known as France Telecom, a former monopoly. The Court, however, found that the Commission was not required to launch a “detailed investigation” in the mater.

    The General Court’s ruling, which can be appealed, found that the services in question “had only limited effects on the functioning of the retail markets.”
