 |  November 7, 2012

As part of the extension, the Commission will look into whether public support measures for the companies – including Tirrenia di Navigaziione, Caremar, Laziomar, Saremar, Siremar and Toremar – are in line with state regulations. The public service compensations were granted to either the companies or their buyers for operating maritime routes between 2009 and 2011. The investigation was first initiated when Italy passed measures that favored companies of the former Tirrenia Group, a shipping company contracted by the Minitry of Transportation linking the nation’s mainland to several of its islands.
