Italy: Regulators support sale of Telecom Italia network

Italy’s Antitrust Authority has decided to separate Telecom Italia’s fixed telephony network to open the telecommunications sector to the market. In a report by the Antitrust Authority to the Italian government and Parliament, authorities stressing that ‘the development of new ultra wide broadband fixed networks, as well as the 4G mobile networks, represents a sensitive stage in the competition process of the markets, in view of the opportunities for entry for new operators and the laying of structural foundations that impact on the development of competition in the medium to long term’.
