Italy: Telecom, Hutchinson talks officially implode

Following reports of failing negotiations, talks between Telecom Italia and Hutchinson Whampoa concerning the merger of their Italian units have officially come to an end. According to reports, Italy’s largest telecommunications company confirmed Thursday that talks of Hutchinson Whampoa, based in Hon Kong, have ended; in a statement, the Italian company said there were not “elements necessary” to continue talks. Telecom Italia currently stands with $37.2 billion in debts, and reports are now conversing about what the company’s next move will be concerning the financial troubles.
