Italy: Telecom Italia antitrust fine appeal flops

Telecom Italia was unsuccessful in its appeal of an antitrust fine issued to the company for abuse of market dominance, reports say, as a federal court rejected the appeal Thursday.

    Telecom Italia was fined nearly $145 million by Italy’s antitrust regulator last year after finding evidence the telco blocked wholesale and retail access to its fixed-line assets. The practice, the regulator found, barred rivals from entering the phone and Internet service provider market.

    The company, which is Italy’s largest fixed-line telephone network owner, appealed the fine, but the Lazio region local administrative court found the sanctions to be justified, according to reports.
