Japan: Sugimoto officially takes office as Fair Trade Commission Chairman

The Japan Fair Trade Commission has announced its new Chairman, Kazuyuki Sugimoto, has taken office. In a press release, the JFTC announced that Sugimoto took office after its investiture ceremony held Tuesday. In a statement, the new Chairman acknowledged the “significant responsibility” he holds and that as the nation’s economy evolves, challenges arise concerning the promotion of healthy competition. According to the JFTC, Sugimoto will focus on three areas while in office: “rigorous and efficient law enforcement,” “enhancement of competitive environment,” and “promotion of international cooperation.” Sugimoto was a registered attorney and has been a government official for more than three decades, most of which he spent at the Ministry of Finance.
