The OFT has accepted the Saint-Gobain group’s undertakings offered to resolve competition concerns with its completed acquisition of Build Center. The Saint-Gobain group, which owns Jewson, undertakes to divest 23 builder’s merchant stores in 22 local areas. The areas include Hastings, Epsom, Aberystwyth, and Galashiels. An investigation by the OFT had revealed the possibility for increased prices in building materials as a result of the merger.

Since the OFT has accepted the undertakings, the merger will not be referred to the Competition Commission.
