Maintaining The Competitive Edge: Competition And Markets Authority Responds To The UK Government’s AI White Paper

On June 1st, the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) published their response to the UK Government’s consultation on the regulation of artificial intelligence (AI) as outlined in the AI White Paper. The CMA’s response provides insights into the proposed framework that the UK aims to implement for AI regulation. This contribution from the CMA follows the Information Commissioner’s Office response to the same paper in April 2023.
The CMA’s response is part of their ongoing efforts as the market regulator in the UK to address AI-related matters. In May 2023, the CMA issued an initial review that focused on competition and consumer protection principles concerning the development and use of foundation models.
