Malaysia Airlines fined $6 million for fixing air freight prices

Australia’s Federal Court has fined Malaysia Airlines $6 million AUD for its role in an air freight price-fixing cartel. The carrier colluded with other airlines over fuel surcharges, security surcharges, and customs fees.

    The fine brings the total amount in fines against the cartel to $58 million, setting a record for the highest penalty coming out of a single investigation by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission. Malaysia Airlines is the ninth airline to settle, and cases against Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Emirates, Air New Zealand and Thai Airways International are still pending.
