Mexico: America Movil pitches $17.5B worth of assets

 |  September 16, 2014

Mexico telecommunications giant America Movil is reportedly pursuing a sale of its assets along the east coast of the country that could fetch up to $17.5 billion, and one of its biggest buyout suitors is said to be AT&T.

Unnamed sources say the company, recently declared the dominant telco in the nation, is speaking with AT&T, SoftBank, China Mobile and Bell Canada to buy up divestitures that include infrastructure along the east coast. America Movil has not yet asked for formal bids, however.

America Movil is now tasked to quell authorities’ concerns over the company’s dominance in the industry. Reports say asset sales could foster more competition in the nation, which recently revamped its telco regulations.
